Andre Canabou is a native of northern California. He earned a M.M. in Clarinet Performance from Northwestern University and a B.M in Clarinet Performance cum laude from the University of Cincinnati. He has studied clarinet with Russel Dagon, principal clarinetist of the Milwaukee Symphony, Donald Caroll, bass clarinetist of the San Francisco Symphony, Gregory Smith, second clarinetist of the Chicago Symphony, Ronald de Kant, retired principal clarinetist of the Vancouver Symphony and Dr. Edward C. Harris, professor of clarinet at CSU San Jose.
An accomplished performer, Andre performed as 2nd Clarinet with the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra from 2006 to 2010. He served as Principal Clarinetist of the Sacramento Philharmonic during the 1997-1998 season, was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago -the "Training Orchestra" of the Chicago Symphony, toured Russia and the United States, including performances at Carnegie Hall and the Tanglewood Music Center, as a member of the American Russian Youth Orchestra, performed on clarinet, e-flat and bass clarinet with the Texas Music Festival in Houston for several summer seasons and performed at the Aspen Music Festival.
Since moving to Plano, he has performed with the East Texas Symphony, the Garland/ Las Colinas Symphony, and the Dallas Winds. As an educator, Mr. Canabou has taught clarinet for Plano, Richardson, Garland and Highland Park ISD. Many of his students have earned 1st chair honors at All-City and All-Region auditions. His students have been named to the Area Band and have performed as members of the Texas All-State Band. His students have held principal positions as members of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO) Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic and Wind Symphony. His students have earned scholarships to continue their musical studies at Baylor University, the University of Houston, Texas Christian University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Boston University, University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Texas at Austin and Texas Tech.
