Payment Procedures

The lesson fee set by the school district for on-campus lessons during class is $20.00 per lesson which is half of your band period.  Lesson payment for the month is due at the third lesson each month.  You should receive an invoice by email for your monthly lessons.  Please review this carefully.  Please contact me if you see a mistake. Payment can be made to Andre Canabou by cash, check, PayPal, ApplePay or Zelle.

Attendance Policy

Please report and absence.  Unless there is an emergency, please notify me directly via email at acanabou@verizon.net 24 hours in advance of lessons that will be missed due to illness and 72 hours in advance for lessons that will be missed for other reasons.  This allows me to work with you to reschedule missed lessons.  To protect student privacy, information about student absences and schedules is not shared with me by the school district. Absences for which I am not notified in advance cannot be made-up or credited.  I will contact you if I cannot be at your lesson.  If you know you will be absent in advance, I can often “swap” a lesson with someone else that week since I often teach during each class more than once.

Teacher Expectations

Lessons will be taught in person on the school campus or at my home studio.  Zoom lessons will be used to make-up excused, missed lessons.  I expect students to practice regularly and prepare assigned materials for lessons.  Students will work on basic playing fundamentals such as tone, embouchure, hand position and breathing.  They will learn note identification, rhythms, phrasing, dynamics and musical interpretation.

These concepts will be taught on an individual level.  Students will be assigned a combination of scales, etudes, method book lines, and solos throughout the year.  I strongly encourage 7th -12th grade students to participate in the Solo & Ensemble Festival and I also encourage advanced students to audition for the All-Region Band.  Advanced students are also encouraged to audition for the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, Lone Star Youth Symphonic Winds, Dallas Asian-American Youth Orchestra and participate in local young artist competitions.
